I Wasn’t Trying To Get Rich. I Was Trying To Get My Life Back.
The point was never fantasy money. It was waking up without hating the day before it even started.
I did not get into marketing because I was obsessed with getting rich. Of course, having more money sounded great. It still does. But what I wanted first was much simpler: I wanted enough money to stop living a life I hated.
Before this, I was a heavy equipment mechanic. I became a mechanic because I did not want to go to college, worked my way up quickly, became the master mechanic at a dealership by 22, and believed that if I just worked harder and made more money, eventually life would feel better. It did not.
Then I started my own mobile heavy equipment repair business. On paper, it worked. The business was bringing in $15,000 to $20,000 a month. But I was still waking up angry, stressed, exhausted, and already thinking about how much I did not want to do the day in front of me. The money was not enough to make the lifestyle worth it.
I remember sitting at the table late at night with bank statements spread out, doing the math on the smallest amount of money I would need to survive. I was thinking about selling my truck, cutting every expense I could, and even bartending seven nights a week if it meant I never had to wake up and do that work again.
That is when I realized the problem was not just income. It was control. I did not need a mansion, a Lamborghini, or millions of dollars in the bank to improve my life. I needed a way to earn enough money without building my entire life around work I hated.
So I tried the same things a lot of people try. Day trading. Amazon FBA. Random side hustles. Internet rabbit holes. Eventually, I learned that online business is not magic. At the center of it, you solve a real problem for someone, deliver the solution, get the right people’s attention, and give them a clear reason to buy from you.
Once I understood that, I became obsessed with the mechanics. Why did this work? Why did that fail? What made someone care? What made them trust? What made them buy? In trying to find the complicated answer, I kept finding the same simple foundations underneath everything that worked.
That skill changed my life. Not because it made me some cartoon version of rich, but because it let me build my business around my life instead of building my life around the way I made money. My wife does not have to leave for a job. We are both home with our daughter. I can work at night when I am naturally more productive. We moved to Florida because we were no longer tied to one location. That is the kind of rich I actually cared about.
That is what I want more people to understand: you do not have to want some extreme, materialistic version of success for this to be worth pursuing. Wanting your time back is enough. Wanting control over your schedule is enough. Wanting to wake up without dreading your life is enough.
I am not here to pretend this is easy or sell you some one-hour-a-day fantasy. You will have to work. You will have to learn. You will get frustrated. Some days will feel like it is not working. But those days are easier to survive when you know what you are building and why you are building it. For me, the reason is simple: I remember exactly what it felt like before, and I am never going back.
